Hound - Lexi - Medium - Young - Female - Dog
DOB: ~March - 55 lbs
In September, Lexi wandered up to the home of her rescuers as a nearly starved, nursing mother. She had almost no hair from mange, intestinal parasites, ear mites and an infection from having had her pups. Despite an intense search by her rescuers, no pups were ever found. Most likely an abandoned hunting dog, they wanted her to have a better life and approached Paw Prints. At Paw Prints, Lexi was immediately put on a strict regimen of food and medication every four hours. In the first two weeks, she gained ten pounds! She devoured her food like she was afraid she would not eat again and she had to wear a sweater most of the time because she had no body fat and little hair to keep her warm on even slightly cool days. During the day when Lexi was out in her fenced yard, she would not go in her dog house until she was shown that it was safe and warm. She had to be coaxed with treats to come into the house and cowered at every little noise or movement. Quick adjustment has followed! Lexi will now wait on her dinner in favor of a brisk walk. The house is still a little scary with all those furry things that make strange noise, but golly cats are fun! She loves other dogs and puts on a great game of 'Chase Me and I'll Chase You.' She is crate-trained and working on her house breaking. She has learned to sit, and down, but will need further training on her house manners. Lexi is now ready to go to a home of her own. She is heartworm negative, spayed and healthy. Lexi will need a nice big fenced yard, and another high energy dog to play with might be nice! She will also be more than happy to be your personal trainer. She loves a good two mile walk and will be a good running companion.
